SUCCESS FOR VIASAT'S INTERNET VIA SATELLITE Over 1 500 registrations for Internet subscriptions have come in to ViaSat, which together with Tele2 was the first actor in Scandinavia to launch Internet communications via satellite. This successful Internet service provides communication at approximatley twice the speed available via ISDN. The availability of Internet access via satellite dish, which got off the ground in the middle of February, has been given a warm reception by ViaSat's card holders in Sweden. In just two weeks, over 1 500 people have registred their interest and ordered an additional PC-card and the equipment needed to gain to the new Internet service. The receiver speed of 200-300 kbps makes it possible to surf the net from home , by using a domestic satellite dish, and this is much faster than using a normal modem. Hans-Holger Albrecht, Managing Director of MTG's Pay-TV division, says: The success of this new and unique Internet service shows the potential for ViaSat when it comes to multi-media applications. What we have here is a basis on which ViaSat will be able to expand its business opportunities in the future. It seems like we have found a very attractive product for the customer.
