Presented annually since 1948 by Danske Filmkritikere (“Danish Film Critics Association”), the Bodilprisen gongs represent one of Europe’s oldest film awards.
This year’s ceremony, held 4 March in Copenhagen, Denmark, was the first to recognize a streaming service.
Lina Brounéus, Viaplay COO for Content: “We’re delighted that Bodilprisen has followed our customers in recognizing the importance of streaming services. Viaplay offers an amazing combination of films, series and original productions; big thanks to our users for sharing how much they enjoy this great content. Amazing movie experiences are just a click away for all viewers in Denmark – anywhere, any time and on any screen.”
MTG’s video streaming service Viaplay, along with two local Danish providers, nominated three films that premiered on their respective services during the past 12 months. Viewers then chose their favourite – with Viaplay and the film “Flaskepost fra P” (English: “Department Q: A Conspiracy of Faith”) collecting the most votes.
Jacob Wendt Jensen, Chairman of Danske Filmkritikere: “Bodilprisen’s 70th birthday is a good opportunity to reflect on where the movie industry finds itself today. This new award recognizes and supports the work being done by streaming services, which provide fantastic opportunities to discover and revisit Danish and international films.”
