MTG Studios commissions new suspense thriller ‘The Lawyer’

January 30 2017

Bestselling author and lawyer Jens Lapidus (‘Easy Money’), together with Hans Rosenfeldt (‘The Bridge’) and Michael Hjorth (‘Sebastian Bergman’), is behind the idea for ‘The Lawyer’. The thriller will premiere exclusively on MTG’s Nordic video streaming service Viaplay and on TV3 in Sweden and Denmark.

  • Ten-part series premieres exclusively on Viaplay and TV3 in autumn 2017
  • Stars Alexander Karim (‘Tyrant’; ‘Zero Dark Thirty’) as leading actor
  • Produced by Oscar-nominated Nicklas Wikström Nicastro and Joakim Hansson

‘The Lawyer’ follows the dangerous descent of Swedish defence lawyer Frank Nordling (Alexander Karim) into the Copenhagen underworld. When he discovers that the firm’s most important client is responsible for the murder of his parents, Nordling is drawn into a life-threatening web of violence and revenge.

Oscar-nominated Nicklas Wikström Nicastro (‘En man som heter Ove’) and Joakim Hansson (‘Johan Falk’) will produce ‘The Lawyer’ for SF Studios Production, with Studio Canal handling international distribution.

Jakob Mejlhede, MTG EVP and Head of Programming and Content Development: “Copenhagen is often called the world’s happiest city – but not for Frank Nordling, a man torn between grief and revenge. We are very glad to work with the most talented producers and actors on ‘The Lawyer’ as MTG continues our journey to become the Nordic region’s leading producer of original content.”

Leading actor Alexander Karim (‘Tyrant’; ‘Zero Dark Thirty’): “I knew straight away that this was a once-in-a-lifetime role. It’s a privilege to take on such a complex character in a nuanced human drama paired with high-adrenaline action.”

Oscar-nominated producer Nicklas Wikström Nicastro: “We’ve brought together fantastic talents and now we’re going to create something truly special. Working with Viaplay and TV3 for the first time is inspiring.”

‘The Lawyer’ is the latest in a series of original productions commissioned by MTG Studios. Other titles include political thriller ‘Embassy Down’; new Nordic drama series ‘Veni Vidi Vici’; LA based comedy drama ‘Swedish Dicks’; Nordic noir series ‘Hassel’; feature length biopic ‘SuperSwede’ about the life of Swedish Formula 1 driver Ronnie Peterson; and kids’ series ‘The Great Escape’.
