‘Forge of Empires’ is an award-winning online strategy game that, so far, has been played for an incredible 5.8 billion sessions (that equals one session for 79% of the world’s population). Released for browsers back in 2012, 60% of the game’s total revenues have come in the last two years. Why?
In 2014, InnoGames took ‘Forge of Empires’ mobile on both iOS and Android. Crucially, the game offered cross-platform functionality – in other words, players could switch back and forth between PC and mobile while using the same game account.
Straight away, ‘Forge of Empires’ became one of the top five new strategy titles for iOS and then won Google’s ‘Best of Games 2015’ award. InnoGames research shows that thanks to mobile, players enjoy the title throughout the whole day. Eight o’clock in the evening is the most popular time, and early afternoon is busy too (‘Lunch of Empires’, perhaps?)
Hendrik Klindworth, CEO of InnoGames, sums up: “Our transition to mobile has been successful, and we’re excited about accelerating our journey further while providing players with the best possible game experiences.”
Today, 60% of InnoGames’ new registrations are on mobile. In addition to cool new features for ‘Forge of Empires’, InnoGames is hard at work developing a number of mobile-only games.
Mobile gaming is the fastest growing segment within the global gaming industry, which is expected to reach total revenues of USD 113 billion by 2018. MTG’s investment in InnoGames in October 2016, followed by a further investment in May 2017, marked our entrance into online gaming as a digital entertainment vertical.
