Fiber fever! Viasat heats up Swedish broadband market

Over 1 million households in Sweden can now choose broadband from Viasat as part of a first-class triple-play offering.

Back in 2012, Viasat started offering broadband to customers in Sweden. Today, Viasat broadband is available to over 1 million Swedish households through 30 of the country’s open fibre networks, with almost 2 million households expected by 2020.

To put that in context, gathering all those households in one place would create Sweden’s new biggest city.

But what’s an open network? Simple: it’s a network where a range of suppliers deliver offerings at a common service level. So a customer who switches broadband provider, for example, will enjoy the same network quality as before – although potentially at a lower price.

And that’s exactly what you get from Viasat.

“We’re offering customers who have a Viasat TV subscription cheaper broadband than the standard offering from any other TV provider in the same network,” says Anders Jensen, EVP and CEO of MTG Sweden.
