With eight of the world’s best drone pilots showing their skills to fans, brands and sponsors, the demo event on 5 and 6 June was a spectacular exhibition of an exciting new sport with sky-high potential.
Created by Zoomin.TV, the annual Drone Racing World Series officially starts next year and will bring gravity-defying drone action to stadiums on six continents – and to millions of viewers (on both online and broadcast TV platforms) around the world.
With its unique blend of cool tech and red-hot competition, drone racing is one of the world’s fastest-growing sports, particularly among younger millennials. By engaging this audience, Zoomin.TV expects the sport to generate over USD 6.5 billion in consumer sales by 2020.
“I’m sure that within 12 years, this will be an Olympic sport,” says Jan Riemens, CEO of Zoomin.TV.
Zoomin.TV is Europe’s largest digital video network. Its global network of over 2,000 video journalists reaches 188 million subscribers and delivered a total of 18 billion views in 2016.
