‘The Lawyer’ takes the stand at Göteborg Film Festival

January 11 2018

MTG’s next original series ‘The Lawyer’, which premieres this spring exclusively on Viaplay and TV3, has been nominated for best TV drama script at the Göteborg Film Festival 2018.

The Lawyer

When defence lawyer Frank Nordling (Alexander Karim: ‘Tyrant’; ‘Zero Dark Thirty’) discovers that his parents were murdered by the firm’s most important client, Nordling’s obsession with revenge is the start of a life-threatening descent into the Copenhagen underworld.

The 10-part thriller ‘The Lawyer’ is scripted by Charlotte Lesche and Karin Gidfors – who now have a chance to write history at this year’s Göteborg Film Festival.

For just the second time, the Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize, launched by the festival together with Nordisk Film & TV Fond in 2017 with the aim of recognising TV screenwriting excellence, will be awarded. The winner will be chosen from five nominees by an international jury and receives SEK 200,000. Last year’s winner was ‘Nobel’, the hit Norwegian drama series produced by MTG’s nice entertainment group.

“It’s about time there was a TV series scriptwriting prize. And it feels great to be nominated,” say Charlotte and Karin.

‘The Lawyer’ is based on an idea by Jens Lapidus (‘Easy Money’) and Michael Hjorth (‘Sebastian Bergman’).

Other upcoming original premieres from MTG include ‘Stella Blómkvist’, ‘Rig 45’, ‘Conspiracy of Silence’, ‘Embassy Down’, ‘Straight Forward’, ‘Pro’s and Con’s’, ‘Hidden’ and ‘Wisting’. The latter two series have been selected in Hollywood outlet Deadline’s ‘Ten International Dramas to Watch in 2018’.

Internationally, ‘Veni Vidi Vici’ recently premiered on premium streaming service Hulu and season one of ‘Swedish Dicks’ on Pop TV in the US, while ‘Black Lake’ has been picked up by BBC Four and AMC Networks-backed Shudder, and ‘Superswede’ is being distributed by IM Global Television.

The 41st Göteborg Film Festival runs from 26 January to 5 February. The winner of the Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize will be announced on 31 January.
