‘The Great Escape’ makes off with Kristallen award

September 4 2017

Viaplay’s original series ‘The Great Escape’ was named Children’s Program of the Year at the Kristallen awards – the first time a kids’ series created for a streaming service has won one of the biggest prizes in Swedish TV.

Kristallen

Launched in December 2016 exclusively on MTG’s Nordic video-streaming service Viaplay, ‘The Great Escape’ aims to present complex subjects like chemistry and mathematics in an entertaining and informative way. The series is produced with Nexiko, a production company based in Stockholm, Sweden.

It’s a format that’s successfully engaged younger viewers across the whole Nordic region – and now also the expert jury for the Kristallen Swedish TV awards.

Ira Gladnikoff, Head of Viaplay: “We’re super-proud of ‘The Great Escape’ and its impact as our first original kids’ series. We’re equally pleased to receive Viaplay’s first Kristallen prize – it highlights the relevance of our storytelling to a wide range of audiences, while recognizing the strong profile of streaming services in the Nordic entertainment ecosystem. We have huge plans for Viaplay’s original content and hope to win many more awards in the coming years.”

The next Viaplay original series for kids will be ‘Peppy Pals’, based on an award-winning app downloaded in more than 150 countries, which will premiere in September 2017.

MTG’s ambition is to become the Nordic region’s leading producer of original content. More than 50 productions are currently in the pipeline, including the dramas ‘ALEX’, starring Dragomir Mrsic, and ‘The Lawyer’; political thriller ‘Embassy Down’; and the second season of the LA based comedy drama ‘Swedish Dicks’.

Next up is noir drama ‘Hassel’, starring Swedish superstar Ola Rapace, which premieres on 8 September exclusively on Viaplay.
