Starting 24 March, the world’s best EA SPORTS™ NHL 18 gamers will face off in the NHL Gaming World Championship.
Following online tournaments in Canada, the European Union and the United States, the top eight players in each territory will advance to a regional final. On 6 May, the European finalists will compete at MTG’s studios in Stockholm, Sweden for two spots in the 2018 NHL Gaming World Championship finals.
Hosted at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas on 19 June, the finals will be streamed live on Viaplay. The winner will make esports history as the first NHL Gaming World Champion – while collecting a cool $30,000, the championship trophy and a ticket to the star-packed 2018 NHL Awards the following day.
Mixing sports and esports introduces a new generation of digital-first fans to traditional sports. In May 2017, MTG brought viewers in the Nordic region live coverage of the EA SPORTS™ FIFA 17 Ultimate Team Championship, which helped make the event the most watched in the game’s history.
Registration for the 2018 NHL Gaming World Championship is open here.
