With an incredible 49-0 (26 KOs) professional record, Mayweather (40) stands unrivalled as the most successful pound-for-pound boxer of all time, and returns to the ring after two years in retirement. McGregor (29) is the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion and former UFC Featherweight Champion, and brings a fearsome reputation as one of the sport’s most intense and hard-hitting competitors.
The fight takes place at the sold-out T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and is set to become the world’s highest grossing pay-per-view boxing match with projected global sales of USD 475 million (source: ESPN) – surpassing the ‘Fight of the Century’ between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao in May 2015, which was also shown on Viaplay and Viasat.
Peter Nørrelund, MTG EVP and CEO of MTG Sport: “This is the main event to end them all – Mayweather vs McGregor, boxing vs MMA, precision vs power. We can’t wait to bring such a thrilling contest, which has massive appeal to all sports fans, to the Nordics on 26 August as the region’s biggest ever pay-per-view.”
Kristian Hysén, Head of Sport, IMG Media, representing and selling the worldwide rights: “The Mayweather vs McGregor event is an epic sport happening and we are delighted to work closely with MTG on the upcoming fight across the Nordic countries. MTG’s long experience and successful PPV operation is a perfect match for this event.”
The pay-per-view will be priced at DKK 499 in Denmark, EUR 59.95 in Finland, NOK 499 in Norway and SEK 499 in Sweden.
MTG’s dedicated fighting streaming service, Viaplay Fighting, offers the very best pay-per-views along with every UFC gala event and world-class boxing such as Nordic Fight Night.
